FAQ

Here are a few things that might help you understand how we transform the ethically-sourced remains of honeybees into beautiful pieces of sterling silver jewelry.
What’s so special about Worker Bee Jewelry?

Worker Bee Jewelry immortalizes honeybees forever by crafting beautiful, one-of-a-kind sterling silver jewelry with the remains of honeybees. Our goal is to capture the honeybee in flight or combine the honeybee with other natural objects like a leaf or a pod.

A core part of our mission is to help the honeybees by donating a percentage of our profits to three local organizations critical to honeybees survival: Matthaei Botanical Gardens (MBG), Ann Arbor Backyard Beekeepers (A2B2), and Ann Arbor Farm & Garden.

Exactly how do you make jewelry using the remains of honeybees?
The remains of the honeybee serve as the armature or framework for each piece of jewelry. First, we dip the remains in a light liquid wax, then we delicately spread the wings and legs. Our creative objective is to capture the bees in flight or put them in natural settings. We create the master – an exquisite, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry – using the lost wax casting method. The wax and the remains are burned out creating a one-time mold. Next, we create a production mold so the work can be replicated.
Is the jewelry made in the USA?
Yes. All silverwork is proudly performed in the state of Michigan by members of the Michigan Silversmiths Guild.
Where do you get the remains of honeybees?
Friends who are beekeepers donate the remains to our studio after the honeybees die. BTW: The life span of a worker bee is 15-38 days so the cycle of life and death is a constant in the bee hive.
What is Organic Bee Jewelry?
Organic bee jewelry means we make our jewelry from the organic remains of real honeybees. The term differentiates our work from other bee jewelry which is often times made from base metals and/or made overseas.
Where do you sell your jewelry?
You can purchase our work directly from our website but we are starting to sell to retail stores around the country. The terms for wholesale purchases are 30 days net with a purchase of 10 or more pieces. If you want to carry our work in your store, please use the contact form on the WBJ Retail page. One of our sales representatives can talk with you about how the relationship can work for you.
